Everyone deserves the opportunity to study and conduct research — regardless of background or circumstances. The Study Without Borders Fund (part of the UvA Fund) supports students and researchers at the University of Amsterdam with a refugee background.

Since 2016, the fund has provided financial contributions to refugee students, PhD candidates, and researchers who wish to start or continue their studies or academic careers at the UvA. These are targeted scholarships — typically ranging between €2,500 and €5,000 — that help cover tuition fees, research costs, or living expenses when other funding is unavailable.

Thanks to this support, 17 students and researchers from countries including Syria, Armenia, Sudan, and Ukraine have already been able to realize their academic ambitions. The fund contributes to equal opportunities, the retention of talent, and an inclusive academic community.
